Narail District is located in the south- western part of Bangladesh. The naming of Narail is debatable by historians. Some historians think that Narail was named after great saint Narial Fakir. Researcher S M Rais Uddin Ahmed thinks that the word Narail came from “Loreall.” It means who fight against enemies. During the period of Khan Jahan Ali (R) such Lorealls guard the border standing on the high end of the bank of border canals. Indigo Revolt (1859-1860), Peasant movement, Tebhaga movement (1946) etc are the remarkable chapters of the region. During the East India Company ruling period, Narail subdivision was established in 1861 under Jessore district. The administrative area of the region was reformed in many times. Finally 01 March 1984, Narail subdivision was upgraded into district. The Geo position of the district is between 23˚10’ North latitudes and between 89˚30’ east longitude.
